Now you have a piercing, all care must be taken to protect your new piercing from infection.
Dissolve 2 teaspoons of salt into a cup of hot water (as hot as you can stand) , then using a clean cotton bud, proceed to clean both sides of the piercing to remove any discharge build up.
If you have had a piercing in mouth area i.e. a lip piercing, then use the cotton bud dipped in salt water to clean the outside of the piercing only. Then use the rest of the salt water to swill the inside of the mouth in the area of the piercing.
If you have had a tongue piercing, then gargle with the salt water for 30 seconds. This treatment should be carried out twice a day for 6 weeks.
Do not play with the piercing.
Do not change the jewellery for at least 6 weeks. (This allows for first stage of healing). Most piercings take between 3 and 12 months to fully heal.
Try to avoid catching or tugging on the piercing.
Try to avoid getting shampoo into the piercing, as some shampoos contain a chemical which may cause irritation. If you do get shampoo into the piercing, then bathe the piercing with clean water.
